Candyland: Complete!!

Well, Project Candyland came to an end yesterday as the original door was rehung and towels were fluffed and placed with love. It's always bittersweet when a project ends.

The latest proposition

Working on a new project is always a challenge. How will the clients react to your ideas? How far is too far? Will they understand what I am trying to say?

Lately at Candyland I've been thinking about the next level details like the ever so exciting grout. That's right grout. I wanted to sell the client on the effect that Em and I saw at The Maritime's restaurant, La Bottega. So simple, so full of charm.

But that image is not terribly impressive. So I went on a hunt, and found this image which I think does better justice to the look:

Now I wait to see if they love the look like I do!

Candyland Details

Just a few quick details I'm super excited about over at Candyland.

Wood Plank Flooring:

ok, ok, it's not really wood planks at all, but a great water tolerant ceramic from Cypress Trading! Normally I would not go for such things, but the texture and coloration is great, and both the client and I LOVE it! I'm excited for the balance of the star pendant with oil rubbed bronze and this chocolate floor with all the pop of nickel. Each plank is installed just like its wood counter part (thin, thin grout!!) in planks that are 4' by 3" wide. Holla.

Brushed Nickel Accents:

The client has been calling this piece his "well" and I love it. This vintage feel faucet will go well with his pedestal sink and had oodles of charm for only $149. I'm focusing on objects and materials that look and feel "found" and not newly produced for suburban america. This faucet fits the bill perfectly. While I have my issues with mixing oil rubbed bronze (all lighting) and nickel (all fixtures) I think we'll be able to do it with lots of style if we just pay attn to the details (multi hued flooring, keeping everything on the same plane the same finish, etc...)

Operation: Candyland

Yesterday was a big day.

Not only did I turn in the keys at Freelance Job Central, I also had a final 'looks' meeting with my client. In additional nicknaming the project "Candyland", we also selected the following three themes to mull over through the weekend.

With demo starting soon (omg!!!), keep on the look out for Candyland posts of successes AND failures, and oh yes, they'll be issues, set backs and the sort. It's just how construction happens. The client even warned me there might be tears, I assured there's no need. This bathroom is going to be stunning.

Without further ado....the looks!!!
LOOK #1- black, metal, and shell: star pendant, mother of pearl mirror, simple black iron sconces, traditional sink. **ladies and gents, we have a winner. the clients just wrote to say it's all about black bits, tradition, and a little bit of fun. it's off to the races!!**

LOOK #2- Oval, metal and age: hand blown glass pendant, iron mirror, simple sink.

LOOK #3- Whimsy, age, and glamour: metal garland light, aged iron mirror, classic sink, pretty mirrored sconces.
